Year 10 art students had some exciting lessons this term, when a local ceramic artist, Rachelle Corker, visited the school to hold a series of workshops with them. It was a great opportunity for the students to experiment with clay and glazes, as well as to create some 3D work for their portfolios.
Students created their own ceramic tiles in response to Rachelle’s work – pinching, tearing, and modelling abstract shapes and forms directly onto the tile to mimic the natural shapes/textures found in plants, sea creatures, corals and geological formations. Once fired, the tiles were decorated using natural-looking glazes and oxides to bring the tiles to life.
