Christmas card competition!

Students were invited to produce a Christmas card design for St Laurence School’s Christmas e-card – either a festive photograph or a hand drawn illustration.  We had such an amazing response and received so many creative and beautiful designs. Mr Stewart chose the winning card, painted by Chloe Sweet, Year 7.

With so many fantastic pictures submitted, we decided that we would like to share them with our local community.  We contacted three of our local care homes and will be sending some cards to them in the next couple of weeks, with messages inside the cards from our Year 7 students to spread some festive cheer.

You can see all of the card designs below – click on the images for a closer look.

Summer Show

Due to Covid-19. our GCSE and A Level Art, Graphics and Photography students have not had the chance to exhibit their work at school in our annual Summer Show. We invited these students to submit their work via email so we could celebrate it on our blog. Here are the submissions below; well done to all that sent work in!

Year 10 ceramic workshops with artist, Rachelle Corker

Year 10 art students had some exciting lessons this term, when a local ceramic artist, Rachelle Corker, visited the school to hold a series of workshops with them. It was a great opportunity for the students to experiment with clay and glazes, as well as to create some 3D work for their portfolios.

Students created their own ceramic tiles in response to Rachelle’s work – pinching, tearing, and modelling abstract shapes and forms directly onto the tile to mimic the natural shapes/textures found in plants, sea creatures, corals and geological formations. Once fired, the tiles were decorated using natural-looking glazes and oxides to bring the tiles to life.
