GCSE Food Technology

Welcome to Food Preparation and Nutrition at St Laurence School.

Food is the first of the essentials of life, the world’s largest industry. Eating is a necessary part of life in order to survive.  Did you know the average person spends a staggering 32,000 hours eating and drinking in their lifetime.

Our Year 11 students have been busy developing their technical skills, from making their own breads, pasta, pastries, meringues, preserves and sauces to name but a few.

Look at how they have given their food the ‘wow factor’ on the plate… Haven’t they done well!

Year 7 Faculty Showcase: Creative Wash Bags

In Term 3 our year 7 Textiles students made wash bags.  Earlier in the year they had designed a block print on the 2D Design CAD programme.  Their block prints were cut on the laser printer and the students used them to decorate their wash bags.  Using a choice of fabric colour for their washbag, and a variety of fabric paints for their block print designs, they produced a wide range of fantastic products – well done!

Take a look at a selection from 7LG1, 7LG3, 7LG4, 7LG6, 7LG7 and 7LG8. Click on the images for a closer look.

Year 7 Faculty Showcase: Textiles

Our Year 7 Textiles students had fun making sunglasses cases in Terms 1 and 2.  This gave them an introduction to using the sewing machines, working with felt, and creating their own designs.  For the rest of the academic year they will be making cushion covers, using the Art Deco design movement as inspiration for their designs.  They will work with a variety of decorative techniques and have an opportunity to design their own print block on our 2D design package.  Look out for further photos of their work!
