The Big Draw!

The Big Draw is the world’s largest drawing festival with thousands of drawing activities connecting people of all ages with museums, outdoor spaces, artists, designers illustrators, and each other.

This year’s theme for the festival is: ‘Make the Change’ and the festival is asking people to explore the relationship between people and our living environments through Art; this could focus on climate change, where you live, recycling or sustainability.

Some of our KS3 students have chosen to make a piece of art in response to this brief, you can see their wonderfully creative submissions below. Well done to all those who took the time to produce a piece of work at home.

Year 12 Fine Art sketchbooks & final outcomes

In preparation for their Personal Investigation project next year, Year 12 Fine Art students have completed a project based on an area of interest from a selection of past exam paper questions.

They have really enjoyed developing their independent thinking and research skills and exploring in more depth the materials and techniques that were of most interest to them. The final outcomes involved a range of techniques such as oil and acrylic paints, cyanotypes, casting methods, collage and stitch and assemblage. We can’t wait to see what they go on to produce during their Y13 project!

Year 13 Photography: Personal Investigation

Year 13 Photography pupils have been exploring their own Personal Investigation over the last couple of months; this could be anything from, ‘An investigation into ways photographers capture people in the urban environment’, to, ‘How has perspective been used in photography over time?’. Pupils were asked to look at inspirational photographers as a starting point, then plan and take a series of photographs in response.

The latest lockdown period has proved challenging as students have been more restricted in terms of materials and equipment, however here are some examples of some of the mini outcomes they have produced during this time.

Year 13 Graphics: Midway outcomes and reflections…

Year 13 Graphics pupils are now halfway through their component one projects. After months of research and developments, they were asked to create a graphic outcome that met many of their project intentions through a five hour practical assessment. All pupils performed incredibly well, showing a high level of skill, creativity and understanding of the graphic design. It was also an opportunity for them to trial some ideas for their eventual final outcome.  Below is a selection of the work produced.

Lockdown Photography Competition

During lockdown, we challenged students and staff to a photography competition. The brief was to document the experience of a week in lockdown – from rainbows in windows and star-jumps on balconies, to explorations of your local area.

We had some amazing entries, but the winner was Christopher Wardell, Year 10, with his beautifully creative photographs of nature.

You can see all the photos below; click on the images to view at a larger size.
