In Term 3 our year 7 Textiles students made wash bags. Earlier in the year they had designed a block print on the 2D Design CAD programme. Their block prints were cut on the laser printer and the students used them to decorate their wash bags. Using a choice of fabric colour for their washbag, and a variety of fabric paints for their block print designs, they produced a wide range of fantastic products – well done!

Now in its fifth year, the Black Swan Arts Young Open has become the most successful and prestigious art competition for young people between the ages of 8 and 19 years old in the South West, attracting hundreds of entries from individuals, schools and youth groups.
St Laurence School has entered a great selection of work from our talented students; ranging from photography, drawing, painting, print, collage, film, to 3D and installation. The selections will be made by the judges next week, with the winners notified in March. If work is selected, it will be exhibited to the public at Black Swan Arts gallery in Frome. Good luck to all our students!

Year 11 have been working with Miss Salvage to create these beautiful and intriguing rust prints. The prints are made by a process in which a mordant is added to paper or fabric, which then creates a print from the rusty item.
There is a wonderful display of creativity and mark-making here, have a look at the photos to see for yourself.
